In the early 90’s, our founders saw a need in the metals industry. No one could offer small quantities of stainless steel, sheared to exact specifications, and shipped quickly, without expensive minimum charges. They started Slice of Stainless with a commitment to provide exactly that.
Whether you need start-up quantities for a prototype run, or help managing your inventory with “just in time” delivery, we’re here for you. We focus on commercial use of stainless and nickel alloys in aerospace, medical, and manufacturing applications. We serve end users in many industries, but we’re also trusted by some of the largest metal distributors to serve their customers.
Slice began as the “small quantity experts,” so even though sales have grown over the years, we’ve never lost our focus on customer needs. Check out a few of our milestones below:
Founders Robin Tackett and Todd Reed worked together at a large metal supplier, the type that had order minimums.
Todd saw the need for a supplier to provide small quantities of stainless cut to size, and developed a new business model with Robin.
Slice of Stainless was established from a small two-bedroom home. Todd delivered pizza at night to help pay the bills. The name "Slice" of Stainless really does have special meaning!
As business grew, the owners expanded into a nearby garage and used the adjoining laundry room as an office.
Steady growth over the next few years allowed Slice to move to a commercial building; a shared space in a former supermarket.
The company built a new 15,000 sq. ft. facility on 2-1/2 acres.
The company joined the online marketplace with its first website.
Ground was broken on a 24,000 sq. ft. warehouse expansion with a 15-ton overhead crane.
Slice launches a completely re-designed website with the latest ecommerce technology.
Slice breaks ground for another expansion onto adjacent acreage. When final, the facility will be 55,000 sq. ft. and cover nearly six acres.
Ribbon cutting for expansion and 25th anniversary! Slice of Stainless celebrated the completion of their major building expansion and marked the 25th anniversary of their founding.
Slice of Stainless joins the O'Neal Industries Family of Companies, the nation's largest family-owned network of metals service centers and component and tube manufacturing businesses.
1967 – 2010
Todd Reed was a visionary and had amazing drive. He recognized the key to our company’s success was going above and beyond customer expectations.
Todd treated his employees with a level of respect and compassion not typically found in the workplace. Along with Robin, Todd viewed the Slice of Stainless staff as an extension of their personal family. While Todd expected employees to perform at a high level of quality and customer service, he always tried to consider their personal needs.
Todd was also passionate about giving back to his alma mater, Live Oaks Vocational School. He was a firm believer in giving kids viewed as underdogs a chance to shine, hiring more than a dozen Live Oaks graduates over the years.
Todd passed away in 2010. Todd and Robin’s legacy continues as Slice of Stainless as the company maintains its commitment to be a trustworthy partner with its customers.
